About Optimum Nutrition
Optimum Nutrition built its name on the gym floor, not the beverage aisle. Tony and Mike Costello started the brand in 1986 with one goal: make sports nutrition that actually held up to scrutiny. Four decades later, ON is a Glanbia Performance Nutrition brand under Glanbia PLC, and it's still leaning on that same premise, just at a much bigger scale.
The whole brand is built around "Gold Standard," a positioning that's less tagline and more operating principle. ON says it runs owned and controlled manufacturing, batch-level testing, and sport-safety certifications across its facilities, backing that up with claims of over 100,000 quality and food-safety checks a year and a team of 300-plus in-house QC specialists. That's the kind of infrastructure most beverage brands don't talk about because they don't have it.
Gold Standard 100% Whey is the flagship that made ON a household name in gyms, and it's the reference point for everything else in the lineup. The brand's reach backs up the claim: ON says it sells in more than 100 countries, which puts it in a different tier than most sports nutrition companies, let alone the newer wave of functional beverage brands trying to break into performance nutrition.
For Bevlab's lens, ON matters as the legacy standard the newer RTD and functional beverage players get measured against, whether they admit it or not. This is a brand for people who want a name with decades of manufacturing rigor behind it, not a startup story.
