Poppi Prebiotic Soda: The Shark Tank Soda That Won Over PepsiCo

About Poppi

Poppi is a Dallas-born prebiotic soda brand that sells soda flavors with 5g of sugar and a prebiotic angle instead of a full-sugar hit. Now part of PepsiCo, it has become one of the most recognizable names in better-for-you soda.

From Farmers' Market to PepsiCo

Founder Allison Ellsworth started in 2015 by mixing fruit juice, prebiotics, and sparkling water in her home kitchen. She wanted to keep drinking soda but didn't love how the traditional version made her feel. A Whole Foods buyer found the early product at a local farmers' market. A Shark Tank deal with Rohan Oza followed, along with a rebrand and the Poppi name.

Today the brand is stocked at major retailers nationwide and is expanding internationally. It joined PepsiCo in 2025.

The Pitch

Poppi's message is that you shouldn't have to give up soda flavor to drink something that fits your life. The brand frames the can as a way to reclaim soda, not a stand-in for it, and it goes after people who'd otherwise pair a burger with plain sparkling water.

The flavor lineup leans on nostalgia and familiar soda profiles:

  • Classics: Cream Soda, Cherry Cola, Orange Cream, Ginger Lime, Doc Pop
  • Fruit-forward: Strawberry Lemon, Sour Apple, Alpine Blast
  • Throwbacks: Shirley Temple

Rotating seasonal and variety-pack drops keep the shelf moving.

Culture and Reach

Poppi has been a social-first brand from early on. It has been photographed with and promoted by celebrities including Post Malone, Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Munn. That mix of lifestyle visibility and mainstream retail distribution helped push it past the "health store curiosity" tier into regular grocery rotation.

Who It's For

Poppi is built for soda drinkers who want lower sugar and a functional-ish label without giving up fizz or flavor. With PepsiCo behind it, it has the distribution to stay a fixture of the modern soda aisle.
