JOLT Energy Is Back with Dr. Jolt, and Redcon1 Brought Some Nootropics

Before Red Bull. Before Monster. Before energy drinks were even a category, JOLT Cola was the go-to for anyone who needed more caffeine than a Coke could deliver. The 1990s brand built its identity on being high-octane in a world where that wasn't yet an option on every gas station shelf.

Now JOLT is back with Jolt Energy Drink, distributed by Redcon1, and the collab is doing something smart: the cans lead with JOLT's branding. The lightning bolt through the "O," the bold retro-pop aesthetic, and a "Taste the Legend" across the front. Redcon1 is in the back credits with their energy drink formula, but it's JOLT that carries the branding and nostalgia that modern supplement brand can't manufacture, so they're leaning into it.

Dr. Jolt is the latest flavor in the soda-based lineup, a "doctor" style soda that fits naturally with the brand's throwback personality. It's a zero-sugar energy drink in a 16fl oz can - but the formula underneath is more interesting than the retro packaging suggests.

The label is fully transparent, which Redcon1 has made a point of across their product lines. At 15 calories and zero sugar, the macros are standard for the category. The formula is where it earns attention.

• Caffeine (200mg) - Sourced from green coffee beans (Coffea Arabica), not synthetic caffeine. You get clean, steady energy with, anecdotally, less of the sharp spike that anhydrous caffeine can produce.
• Alpha-GPC (200mg) - A choline source that supports focus and memory recall. At 200mg, this is a decent dose. Most RTDs that include it at all use cosmetic amounts, but this provides a fair amount.
• L-Carnitine (1g) - Supports energy metabolism and may help with muscle preservation. A full gram is a solid inclusion with clinical backing (most full-blown sports nutrition recovery studies use 2g per day but there are definitely benefits at 1g).
• Taurine - Present on the label, dose unlisted. Standard in the category; supports hydration and contributes to the smooth feel most people notice.
• B Vitamins - B5, B6, and B12. B12 hits 1,000% DV, B5 and B6 both land at 100% DV. Table stakes for the category, but dosed properly.

The Alpha-GPC at a real dose is the standout. That's not common at this price point, and it's what separates this formula from a nostalgia play dressed up as an Enny.
