WELD Protein Energy Drink: 18g Clear Whey + 200mg Caffeine in One Can
WELD is a carbonated protein energy drink packing 18g clear whey isolate and 200mg caffeine into a single 16 fl oz can. Here's what's in it and who it's built for.
If you've ever grabbed a protein shake and an energy drink before heading out the door, WELD was built for you. The startup brand's flagship WELD Carbonated Protein Energy Drink puts 18g of clear whey protein isolate and 200mg of caffeine into one 16 fl oz can -- zero sugar, no milky texture, just energy and protein in the same crack.
We've been excited to cover this one since we heard it was hitting shelves. The protein-plus-energy RTD is still an emerging format, and WELD is one of the more direct executions of the idea we've seen.
A Category That's Just Getting Started
Bucked Up opened this door roughly a year ago with their Lightly Carbonated Protein RTD, proving there was an audience for drinkable protein that didn't taste like a milkshake. WELD takes that concept a step further by adding a full 200mg caffeine dose -- turning it from a protein RTD with some fizz into something that genuinely functions as a daily energy drink.
The brand was founded by Ernie Little, who started the company after spending his student-athlete years buying a protein shake and an energy drink separately every day. The math on that adds up fast. WELD's answer is a single can that handles both -- launched at $36 for a 12-pack ($3 per can), it's competitive with buying the two products separately.
What's Inside
The formula is simple and focused. No nootropic stack, no adaptogens -- just protein, caffeine, and B vitamins.

The WELD Ingredients Panel.
- Whey Protein Isolate (18g) - The "clear" in "clear whey" matters here. Whey isolate is processed to remove most of the fat and lactose, which is what lets it stay transparent in a carbonated drink instead of going milky or cloudy. You get a full 18g per can (36% DV) with only 80 calories and 1g of carbs.
- Caffeine (200mg) - A solid, mid-range energy dose. Not conservative, not extreme. For context, that's on par with a standard Monster or Celsius. Comes in as straight caffeine in the ingredient list, no specific source noted on the label.
- B Vitamins (100% DV each of Niacin, B5, B6, B12, and Folate) - The full B-complex is table stakes in the energy drink category. These support energy metabolism at the cellular level, and at 100% DV per can, the dosing is legitimate.
- Sucralose - The zero-sugar sweetener here. No stevia, no monk fruit. Standard for the category and typically the cleaner-tasting option in carbonated formats.
The ingredient list is relatively clean: Carbonated Water, Whey Protein Isolate, Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Sucralose, Caffeine, Sodium Citrate, and the B vitamin forms. One note: the label reads "Naturally and Artificially Flavored," so keep that in mind if you're strictly avoiding artificial flavors.
Contains milk (the whey), so not dairy-free, although the clear whey isolates have nearly all of the lactose removed.
Flavors Available
WELD launched with four SKUs:
- Blue Razz
- Cherry Limeade
- Fruit Punch
- Orange Cream
All four are available as 12-packs at drinkweld.com. A Variety 12-pack is also available if you want to sample before committing.
Who It's For
- The two-can commuter: If you're already buying a protein shake and a coffee or energy drink every morning, this is the obvious consolidation play.
- Athletes and gym-goers: 200mg pre-workout caffeine plus 18g post-workout protein in one can isn't a bad deal. The timing works differently depending on how you use it, but it covers both bases.
- Anyone who wants protein without the shake texture: The clear whey format drinks like a carbonated beverage, not a protein shake. That's a real differentiator for people who hate thick, milky texture.
The Protein Energy Drink Is Here
WELD keeps the formula tight and the concept clear. You're not getting a nootropic stack or a sophisticated stimulant profile -- you're getting a solid caffeine hit and a meaningful protein dose in a format that actually drinks well. For the consolidation use case, it works.
The category is young but absolutely blowing up in late 2025 / early 2026. Bucked Up showed there was demand for protein in carbonated can format, and WELD is betting there's even more demand when you add serious caffeine to the equation. We think they're right.
