KTropix Klean Protein Shot

The most interesting protein shot on the market - and you can bring it on the airplane.

KTropix Klean Protein Shot packs 24g of beta-lactoglobulin into a 3.4oz shot. Zero sugar, 90 calories, and one flavor has 50mg caffeine

KTropix Klean Protein Shot

Protein shots are not a new idea. What is new is building one around beta-lactoglobulin -- the most leucine-dense fraction of whey protein -- and packing 24g of it into a 3.4oz bottle with zero sugar, zero carbs, zero fat, and 90 calories. That's the pitch from KTropix Klean Protein Shot, the flagship product of K Tropix Wellness, the mainstream supplement arm of K-Tropix, a Boise, Idaho-based brand with roughly five years in the botanical space.

The product comes in two SKUs: Mixed Berries (no caffeine) and Watermelon (50mg caffeine from green tea). Both use the same ProFerm® 1000 fermented BLG base, the same OliveGuard® polyphenol-plus-fiber add-on, and the same clean excipient stack. The Watermelon variant adds a mild functional edge. If you've been skeptical about protein shots -- too thick, too sweet, too obviously engineered -- this one is worth a closer look before you write off the format.

Each 3.4oz (107g) bottle provides the following:

  • ProFerm® 1000 Whey Protein Isolate (Fermented Beta-Lactoglobulin) - 26.5g

Beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) is the dominant protein fraction in bovine whey, accounting for roughly 50-65% of total whey proteins. What makes it interesting isn't just that it's high quality -- it carries significantly more leucine per gram than standard whey protein isolate. BLG delivers approximately 15-16% leucine by weight, compared to around 10-12% for conventional WPI.[1,2] That gap matters because leucine is the primary nutritional trigger for mTORC1, the signaling pathway that kicks off muscle protein synthesis. More leucine per gram means you can drive a robust anabolic response from a smaller serving volume, which is the whole logic behind a 3.4oz shot format.

K Tropix sources their BLG through ProFerm® 1000, a precision-fermented whey protein isolate that removes over 95% of trace lactose. A 2025 crossover study found that approximately 10g of BLG produced significantly greater peak plasma leucine and BCAA availability compared to an equal-nitrogen WPI dose, with both supplements stimulating muscle protein synthesis by around 52-58% in fed and fed-plus-exercise conditions.[1] An 8-week resistance training trial using fermentation-derived BLG found muscle adaptation outcomes equivalent to conventional dairy whey.[3] The 26.5g serving here delivers well above the leucine threshold associated with robust mTORC1 activation in healthy adults.[1,4]

BLG also triggers a stronger insulin response than standard WPI, which supports amino acid uptake into muscle tissue after training.[5]

  • OliveGuard® (Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Fiber) - 20mg

Klean Protein Shot Mixed Berries ingredient label
Mixed Berries SKU ingredient panel — same ProFerm® 1000 and OliveGuard® base, no caffeine.

OliveGuard® is a proprietary ingredient that encapsulates extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in an acacia fiber matrix, converting the liquid oil into a shelf-stable, water-dispersible powder. It's a two-part system: the EVOO contributes polyphenols -- primarily hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, and oleocanthal -- and the acacia fiber acts as both the delivery vehicle and a prebiotic component.

The polyphenol side has a credible research backing. In a large crossover trial with 200 healthy men, olive oil with higher polyphenol content significantly increased HDL cholesterol and reduced oxidized LDL in a dose-dependent fashion, while low-polyphenol oils produced opposite effects on LDL oxidation.[6] Oleocanthal, the compound responsible for the peppery sensation in high-quality EVOO, inhibits the same COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes as ibuprofen, though at substantially lower concentrations than a pain-relief dose.[7]

The acacia fiber component has its own clinical data. A 4-week RCT in IBS-C patients found 10g/day acacia fiber significantly increased stool frequency compared to placebo.[8]

At 20mg, OliveGuard is a complementary addition rather than a primary therapeutic dose. You're getting the polyphenols and a trace prebiotic contribution, not a meaningful fiber serving. Think of it as a clean bonus rather than the main event.

  • Caffeine (from Green Tea) - 50mg (Watermelon SKU only)

Klean Protein Shot no crash marketing graphic

Caffeine at 50mg is a light functional dose, roughly half a cup of coffee. K Tropix sources it from green tea, which carries the same mechanism as any caffeine source: blocking adenosine receptors in the brain to keep the tiredness signal from going through.[9] At this dose, research shows consistent benefits on vigilance and sustained attention with minimal jitteriness or sleep disruption risk for most people.[10]

This isn't a pre-workout dose. It's closer to what you'd add to a functional beverage for a mild energy edge -- appropriate for mid-morning or early afternoon without worrying about it keeping you up at night. For those who want protein without any stimulant, the Mixed Berries SKU skips it entirely.

  • Other Ingredients

    • Purified Water - the primary liquid base of the shot.
    • Natural Flavors - used to deliver the berry and watermelon profiles without added sugar or artificial color. Derived from biological sources and evaluated for safety under the FEMA GRAS program.
    • Phosphoric Acid - a food-grade acidulant that lowers the pH of the shot, contributing tartness and helping preserve freshness. Worth noting that phosphoric acid-containing beverages tend to run acidic, which is a consideration for frequent consumption and dental health.[11]
    • Malic Acid - a naturally occurring fruit acid that adds sour and tart notes to balance the sweetener and protein base. A TCA cycle intermediate with a well-established safety profile as a food additive.
    • Potassium Sorbate - a standard antimicrobial preservative that inhibits yeast and mold, keeping the shot shelf-stable at room temperature. EFSA has established an ADI of 11mg/kg body weight per day with a 100-fold safety margin; realistic dietary exposure for most people falls well below that threshold.[12]
    • Sucralose - a zero-calorie sweetener used to maintain palatability without adding sugar or carbohydrates. Globally approved and used here at food-relevant levels.[13]
    • Sodium Benzoate - a second preservative working alongside potassium sorbate, effective against bacteria in acidic aqueous environments. Standard dual-preservative approach for ambient-stable protein shots. EFSA has established a group ADI of 0-5mg/kg body weight per day.[14]

Flavors Available

  • Mixed Berry (Caffeine-Free) (12 Shots: $57.50)
  • Watermelon (Caffeinated) (12 Shots: $67.50)

Who It's For

Ktropix Klean Protein Shot Featured Brand
Ktropix Klean Protein Shot
  • High-protein dieters without shaker access: Anyone hitting aggressive protein targets on the road, at the office, or in transit who doesn't want to deal with powder or a 20oz RTD bottle. TSA-approved, no refrigeration needed, fits in a jacket pocket.
  • GLP-1 medication users and smaller appetites: BLG's leucine density means 24g of protein with a meaningful anabolic stimulus in under 100 calories -- relevant if you're eating significantly less and need each meal to count.

The Verdict: A Protein Shot That Actually Earns It

Most protein shots are a compromise: lower protein, cheaper base, flavors that fight you. Klean Protein takes a more considered approach, building around BLG's genuine leucine advantage and a precision fermentation process that makes the format practical. The 26.5g of ProFerm® 1000 delivers well above what's needed to support muscle protein synthesis, OliveGuard is a thoughtful add-on rather than label dressing, and the dual-SKU setup covers the obvious use cases without overcomplicating the line.

If you're serious about protein intake, travel regularly, or just want a clean 90-calorie hit of high-quality whey that fits in your pocket, the Klean Protein Shot is worth the price of entry.
